Understanding Estonian Verbs: Meeldib vs. Armastan

In Estonian, 'meeldib' and 'armastan' are two verbs that express different levels of affection or preference. 'Meeldib' is used to indicate that something is pleasing to you. For example, if you enjoy watching movies, you would say: Mulle meeldib filme vaadata. EN: I like watching movies. RU: Мне нравится смотреть фильмы.

On the other hand, 'armastan' is a stronger verb used to express love or deep affection, typically towards people or things you are passionate about. For example: Ma armastan oma ema. EN: I love my mother. RU: Я люблю свою маму.

A common mistake is using 'armastan' when you simply mean you like something. Remember, saying „Ma armastan šokolaadi“ implies a deep love for chocolate, not just liking it!

To practice, try creating your own sentences using both 'meeldib' and 'armastan' to describe things you like and love. Visit https://examspoint.ee/modules for more practice exercises.
